Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC), through the Local Economic Partnership (LEP), is exploring the design and delivery of a Community Wealth Building (CWB) Programme to support inclusive economic growth, increase local wealth retention and contribute to reducing economic disparities across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. The Council is undertaking this Preliminary Market Engagement (PME) exercise to understand current market capability, identify innovative delivery approaches, and inform the development of a future procurement specification. Community Wealth Building is an approach to local economic development that seeks to build stronger, fairer and more resilient local economies by increasing community ownership and control of local assets, wealth and economic opportunities. The approach is structured around five interconnected pillars: 1. Plural Ownership of the Economy; 2. Progressive Commissioning, Procurement and Social Value; 3. Socially Productive Use of Land and Assets; 4. Locally Rooted Finance; and 5. Fair Employment and Just Labour Markets.
