During 2008 the water ring main serving the Forest Drive estate suffered major leakage and sections couldn't be isolated or closed. The existing installation didn't have any service valves or meters to control the system). 1 large water meter at the top of Forest Drive, then spurs off and forms a ring largely mirroring the road connecting to the blocks of flats and the privately owned houses. Aster engaged with Water Matters who installed new isolation valves in 2009, reducing the leakage down to 700lts per hour into 2010, which made the water ring main easier to manage and isolate. Between 2014/16 there were large losses of up to 900lts of water per hour. Monitoring devices were installed to monitor potential leaks and alarm triggers installed which alerts Water Matters. Aster have managed and maintained the ring main at its own cost and are currently the utility supplier to all of the residents and private homeowners. The water provider is Veolia (formerly Thames Water). In In 2019 Aster formed a project team to try and get the water main adopted. The existing water ring main is black Alkathene pipe and believed to have been installed around 1965 when the estate was built. I
