As a Waste Disposal Authority, Kent County Council (KCC) has a statutory responsibility to arrange for the disposal of the organic waste collected in its area by the Waste Collection Authorities (collected at kerbside), and deposited by residents at Household Waste Recycling Centres. KCC is awarding a new contract for the processing and disposal of organic waste, with the new services commencing on 1st April 2026. The Provider will be required to have in place: • A waste processing facility with appropriate permitting, planning permissions and health and safety standards; • An electronic weighbridge for the weighing-in of material delivered to their facility to provide the Council with the appropriate management information (including weigh-loader transaction listings); • Robust service contingency plans to ensure continuity of services in the event of non-availability of facility, plant failure, etc. • Provision to accept blended organic waste and food waste (subject to legislation and Waste Collection Authority methods) • Regular reporting methods for tonnage processed, contamination rates, and recycling/recovery outcomes.
