This contract covers the survey, design, materials and commissioning for 10 sites The contract relates to services required to support the implementation of a telemetry-based assurance solution for MCB level crossings, enabling the reduction of planned cyclical maintenance activities. The solution must provide the level of monitoring, reliability and safety assurance necessary to support this operational change and have completed the relevant safety assurance processes. Hitachi is currently the only supplier identified as having a proven, safety-assured solution capable of meeting these requirements. No reasonable alternative supplier has been identified that can provide an equivalent assured solution within the required operational and safety parameters without requiring substantial investment by Network Rail to modify, replace or reconfigure its existing telemetry systems and associated support arrangements.
